In preparation for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2027, Cork County Council is seeking proposals from artists and performers who can work as Gaeilge, or bilingually, to be included in the 2027 programme of events for Cork county. These events will be scheduled in various libraries and venues across the county during the Seachtain na Gaeilge festival.
Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international Irish language festival and one of the biggest celebrations of our native language and culture that takes place each year from March 1st to 17th. The festival gives an opportunity for everyone to enjoy Irish, whether you are a fluent speaker, learner or have a cúpla focal, with an annual calendar of entertaining and fun events for every type of interest and every age group.
Welcoming the call-out, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Bernard Moynihan said that Seachtain na Gaeilge is ‘growing in strength from year to year’.
“It is a terrific opportunity to showcase the talented artists, performers, and creators who work through the medium of Irish. It is also a great way to introduce the public to the Arts through Irish in an enjoyable, accessible, and organic way. I encourage Irish language based artists and performers who may have ideas or plans for events to answer this call to be included in the festival programme”
APPLICATIONS
Events can take the form of workshops, performances, talks etc. Cork County Council welcomes proposals for events aimed at all age groups and all levels of fluency.
Applicants should include: a short proposal (200 words) describing your proposed event; a CV; whether you intend to deliver entirely through Irish or bilingually; your intended audience (i.e. children, adults, older people etc); your availability from March 1st-17th i.e. days and time you would be available to work; as well as the duration of your proposed event.
HELPING TO ENCOURAGE FUTURE GENERATIONS
Moira Murrell, chief executive of Cork County Council, also encouraged artists to answer the call out.
“Irish language based arts and artists are very much in the spotlight these recent years. There has been a positive increase in interest in activities and performances through Irish. Cork County Council is happy to support artists and performers who use the Irish language and considers it important as a way of encouraging the use and visibility of Irish around the county, perhaps even encouraging future generations of Irish language based arts and artists.”
Proposals should be returned to arts@corkcoco.ie by 20th November, 2026.
