Plans to bring a replica of the Lismore Crozier to the town for the 400th anniversary of the Lismore charter have moved on a step. In order to house the replica crozier in the town’s heritage centre, it is necessary for the curators of the piece, the National Museum, to visit Lismore to inspect the premises and ensure its suitability and see if there’s adequate security. The problem was that the National Museum wanted the cost of their visit covered.

At the March meeting of Lismore Town Council it was agreed to part fund the trip if the Heritage Centre also contributed. At their April meeting this week, members were advised that the Heritage Centre had no problem in doing so. A form was sent from the National Museum which Mealla Fahey, project manager at the heritage centre, completed and sent back to put the process in train. The town council meeting also heard that the cost will be reduced as the National Museum officials now plan to combine the visit with one to Waterford Museum of Treasures.
