Araglin native John Allen had a closely fought battle over the weekend but came out victorious as the Australian-based jockey took the Ladbrokes Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
Crossing the finish line on the three-year-old Bay Colt, State of Rest, it was another success for the local man who took the Victorian Hockey’s Premiership and the Group 1 Australian Derby earlier this year.
Speaking with The Avondhu, John’s mother Mary noted that it was his first time winning the Ladbrokes Cox Plate.
“We were talking to him shortly after he won and he was just delighted,” she said.
