
Discontent boiled over in Mitchelstown last week as a large crowd of over 200 farmers gathered outside Dairygold’s headquarters to protest a 3c/l cut to the August milk price, which they say has cost the average supplier around €1,600 for the month.
At the centre of the demonstration was the newly formed Committee of the Concerned Dairygold Shareholders Group, a recently formed organisation representing farmers unhappy with the direction of Dairygold.
IFA chair of the poultry committee, Nigel Sweetnam, addressed a large crowd of protestors outside the Dairygold building on Clonmel Road on Friday, along with Dairygold supplier Eoin Burke.
