A commemorative event marking the handover of Kilworth Camp took place at what is now General Liam Lynch Camp on Friday morning last under the watchful eye of camp Comdt. Tadhg O’Donoghue.
Others in attendance included present and past members of the Irish Defence Forces, UN veterans, Post 25 (Fermoy) members, local public representatives, pupils from Curraghagalla and Kilworth national schools, along with family and friends of Kilworth based soldiers.
On the day, there was a parade by personnel attached to 1 Brigade Training Installation, a wreath laying ceremony, an exhibition of military memorabilia and a tour of the camp.
Comdt O’Donoghue said the centenary of handovers was a time for men and women of the Irish Defence Forces to reflect on a century of military service at home and abroad.
