Parents bringing their kids to school on Friday last joined truckers in a protest against a treacherous stretch of road on the main Mallow to Mitchelstown route.

Hauliers had launched the protest because of the dangerous narrow stretch at Waterdyke near Shanballymore. They said that the road, which is the N73, is unfit to be used as a national route.

Dozens of trucks were joined by private cars in their protest in a hope of raising awareness of the problem.

Hauliers have said that they are suffering damaged to their vehicles because of low hanging branches and the narrow carriageway.
