A solar farm outside Kildorrery has become the first project in the country operating under the government’s Small-Scale Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (SRESS).
An open day was held at Meadhill Solar Farm on Friday last, with Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine, Niall Collins, among those in attendance to mark the commencement of operations.
The 650kW facility was independently developed by local dairy farmer, Sean Keating and installed by PV Generation. More than 1,000 ground-mounted solar panels have been fitted across approximately an acre and a half of the family’s 110-acre farm.
