Close on 60 contributions made up of short stories, poems and even a LImerick or two thrown in, make up the latest volume from Mitchelstown Writers’ Group, aptly named Another Mitchelstown Miscellany.
Even at first glance, one is tempted to pick up this book with its lovely colour picture of Lower Cork Street from the camera of Carole Bradley. Inside, well who wouldn’t want to read ‘A Battered Husband’s Woeful Tale’ from the pen of Joan O’Callaghan? Or Mary Meaney’s ‘Mad Mother On The Loose Again’; ‘Ghost stories, Cobwebs and Electricity (Maura Treacy) or ‘Lucey The Goosey’ from the pen of Brendan Healy.
Some writers have opened their hearts, pouring out what many would state as being very personal aspects of their lives; Sheila Casey’s ‘Just A Cuppa’ might well put you off tea for life; ‘The Colour of Life’ from the pen of Ollie Stack may well bring a tear to your eye as a day’s fishing leads to an old man pouring his heart out to a pair of young, eager ears or Anne Griffins ‘Memories (of Brigowna nd Upper Cork Street) will take you back a few years in time.
Along with those mentioned above, there are equally interesting contributions from Ann Gildea, Esther Langley, Brenda Breeds, Angela Osborne, Bunty Flynn, Bernadette Hussey, Ciara Flynn, Hannah O’Donnell, Sharon O’Carroll, Elizabeth Dolan, Liz Desmond and Brendan Healy.
The Miscellany will be launched on Friday, September 16 at 3pm in Kingston College to mark Culture Day in Ireland.
