The word ‘carnival’ conjures up images of Ireland in the old days when hard working communities took time out during long hot summers to generate their own entertainment.
The traditional carnival concept made a comeback in Castlelyons last Sunday and the results were spectacularly successful.
Held in the impressive venue that is Fr. Ferris Community Park, this first class amenity was a hive of activity from early afternoon as families from the parish of Castlelyons and beyond availed of the carnival’s free admission policy.
Once on site, patrons were spoilt for choice with sports, amusements, competitions, novelty acts, fancy dress, face painting, sheaf tossing, Wellington throwing and dog show all laid on.
