A concerted campaign to repair the weir in Fermoy has intensified with the staging of a well supported march/rally in the town last Saturday morning.
Those seeking remedial works to be carried out have a number of strands to their arguments, ranging from the historic landmark value of the weir to the negative impact a delapidated weir has on salmon migration.
Fermoy Rowing Club members, who accounted for a large portion of marchers, argue that a continually eroding weir will affect water levels and as a result, their sport.
In his presentation to RTE recently, activist, Donal O’Keeffe, stressed the aesthetic association the weir has with Fermoy.
