Vandals who have damaged a life buoy in Fermoy on the section of the Barnane walk adjacent to Fermoy Rowing Club are putting lives at risk, a vice-president of the rowing club has warned.

Former councillor John Murphy, who has served in various capacities with the club, discovered that the life buoy had its rope cut off and removed while out walking.

Several other life buoys along the walk next to the Blackwater river were undamaged, but with the number of swimmers increasing during the summer months, any damaged buoy is a risk to the lives of water users, Mr Murphy said.
