Castlelyons and the adjoining village of Bridesbridge have done trojan work over the last 12 months commemorating 1916 and the role of the Kent family to this turbulent period.
Cork County Council acknowledged this recently by presenting members of the Castlelyons/Bridesbridge Tidy Towns & Heritage Group with a prestigious ‘Pride of County Cork’ award.
In a continuation of this theme, the group held a Tree of Remembrance ceremony close to the village centre on Sunday evening last – public representatives in attendance included local TD, Deputy Kevin O’Keeffe and councillors Frank O’Flynn, Deirdre O’Brien and June Murphy.
The ceremony comprised the planting of seven trees honouring the 7 executed signatories of the 1916 Proclamation.
