The summer sun is a real bonus for all of us but so too is the list of events that are taking place at The Grainstore in Ballymaloe. Following last Friday's evening of hilarity with comedian Neil Delamere, Friday 26th sees musician, songwriter, performer, storyteller, poet and dreamer, John Spillane take to the stage of The Grainstore and in his own words - will that be good or what?
Adding to the magic, he has invited Cobh native, Caroline Fraher, to join him on stage.
An evening with John Spillane spans folk, acoustic, traditional, world and pop music.  He effortlessly flits between beautiful poetry tinged with melancholy to roguish, irreverent Cork humour.  The two-time Meteor Award winner is one of the most accomplished songwriters in Ireland today. Among those who have covered his songs are Christy Moore, Karan Casey, Pauline Scanlon, Cathy Ryan and Sharon Shannon.

John is renowned for classic songs like 'Passage West', 'Johnny Don’t Go To Ballincollig', 'Magic Nights In The Lobby Bar', 'The Dunnes’s Store Girl', 'All The Ways You Wander', 'Princess Street' and many more.

John is a native of Cork, the county he lovingly describes as 'the centre of the universe' and which has been a huge creative influence on him. His first Ballymaloe Grainstore concert is unmissable for music fans.

"Some of the most skillfully crafted, vividly realized songs anyone has written in Ireland" - Wall Street Journal

Special guest on the night will be Caroline Fraher, an up-and-coming recording artist now based in Youghal. It was Caroline's cover of John's tune, 'Passage West' that first brought her to John's attention. He approved!

Caroline recently released an EP produced by guitar legend Steve Cooney. She has appeared at the Midleton Folk Club and De Barras Clonakilty and was selected from the audience to duet with Josh Groban at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre. Grobin's musical director was so impressed by Caroline's vocals, that he invited her to Los Angeles to explore musical possibilities there.

Tickets for the concert are €20 and can be booked online at www.ballymaloegrainstore.com or by phone on 021-465 1555. A pre-show dinner at Ballymaloe House (6pm) and ticket package is available for €65. Booking fee may apply.
