A study on upgrading Fermoy’s sewerage scheme, which is needed for the future development of houses and businesses in the area, is expected to be complete by mid 2017.
At present Fermoy’s sewerage system is working fine, but works to expand the town’s scheme are on the cards, because if a group of residential dwellings or a factory were to be built, the existing scheme would be under pressure.
Cllr Noel McCarthy said he welcomes these plans for Fermoy’s sewerage scheme, which will be particularly focused around the northside of the town.
“It is good news for Fermoy. There is no problem with the sewerage system, it just needs to be upgraded going forward,” he added.
The project is included in the Irish Water Investment Programme 2014 to 2016. Currently a consultant is preparing a drainage area plan for the development.
