Recording officers around The Avondhu catchment area have been reporting slow progress this Friday morning, on what is largely a grey and damp day, with around 10% turnout before 12 noon.

By 10am in Glanworth around 4% of the local electorate had voted in the community centre, while in Ballyhooly the turnout stood at closer to 10% by 11am. Constituents in both these areas are voting for candidates in the Cork East constituency.

In Glenville, part of the Cork North Central constituency, voter turnout was just shy of 10% by 11.30am.

All recording officers The Avondhu spoke with, were expecting a surge in numbers throughout the afternoon, with the peak time coming after 5pm when people finish work.
