Sleeping under the stars in Mitchelstown to highlight homelessness

While many of us were deciding whether to turn up the heating a notch or two last Friday night as temperatures plummeted, a group of hardy locals were sleeping out rough in Mitchelstown’s New Market Square.

The ‘sleep out’ in aid of Focus Ireland, saw local councillors, Peter O’Donoghue (Bartlemy) and William O’Leary (Rathcormac) endorsing the initiative. Kilworth native, Peter, who has a track record of assisting homeless individuals, said it was vital to highlight what he described as ‘a massive social problem for urban and rural Ireland’.

Cllr. O’Leary believes there should be a concerted effort to tackle the scourge of homelessness.
