While the rain that began to fall on Sunday night and into Monday may have added to the difficulty of disassembling tents for festival goers at Indiependence in Mitchelstown, the local scout troupe were out in force to collect over 160 sleeping bags from the festival campsite.

Once dried out, the sleeping bags will be donated to the Cork Simon Community.

In a Facebook post, Mitchelstown Scout Group (29th/30th Cork) said: “One night’ rain can change a lot. Everyone was in a rush to leave the farm this morning. Our Rover crew helped some struggling in these damp conditions but kept in mind those who’ve no choice but sleep out in this rain. We collected over 30 bags of discarded, damp but otherwise perfectly usable sleeping bags. These are donated to the Cork Simon Community who dry clean them and will distribute them to the homeless over the coming weeks and months.”

As well as helping to collect sleeping bags that will be donated to homeless people, the scout group were on hand through the weekend to help any festival goers with pitching their tents and assisting with any repairs that may have been required.

“It is good to think that out of what would have been thrown away, will hopefully come something that will benefit someone in need,” they added.
