Coolmine Therapeutic Community, Ireland’s drug and alcohol treatment service, proudly celebrated the official launch of Teaghlach, Coolmine’s Family Service in Cork.
The launch event, held at the Teaghlach Family Service premises in Gurranabraher, marked an important milestone for addiction and family support services in the region and highlighted the growing need for community-based, family-centred therapeutic interventions. Minister Jerry Buttimer, councillors, statutory agencies, community organisations and healthcare professionals gathered to support the important new initiative for families impacted by addiction.
Guests attending the event were welcomed by the Teaghlach multidisciplinary team including Stephan Cashman, Regional Services Manager, South West and Sarah Gallagher, Family Service Manager and were given an opportunity to tour the purpose-designed therapeutic spaces, meet clinicians and therapists, and learn more about the evidence-based supports now available to families across Cork.
TAILORED SUPPORT
Funded by HSE Drug and Alcohol Services and Cork and Kerry Drug and Alcohol Task Force, Teaghlach provides a wraparound therapeutic service supporting parents, children and caregivers affected by addiction. The service works with the family as a whole, ensuring each individual receives tailored therapeutic support within a safe, compassionate and trauma-informed environment.
The service aims to strengthen family wellbeing and improve family functioning by reducing the stress and challenges associated with addiction supporting healing and recovery, and helping to break intergenerational cycles of addiction.
Therapeutic interventions provided through the service include Parenting Under Pressure (PUP) therapy, play therapy and art therapy, all delivered through a multidisciplinary and strength-based approach focused on recovery, resilience and improved family outcomes.
The official launch was attended by local ministers and councillors, who praised the innovative and compassionate approach being delivered by Coolmine Therapeutic Community and acknowledged the importance of investing in early intervention and family support services within local communities.
Pauline McKeown, CEO of Coolmine Therapeutic Community welcomed people to the open day, saying that “the service is centred on hope, recovery and connection, ensuring families have access to compassionate, evidence-based support in a safe and nurturing environment.”
Thanking Cork City Council for their support with the premises, McKeown added that “their assistance has helped us create a dedicated therapeutic space where families can feel safe, supported and empowered on their recovery journey”.
INCREASED AWARENESS
The launch highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between community organisations, statutory services and local stakeholders in ensuring families can access the support they need early and effectively. Coolmine Therapeutic Community hopes the event will further strengthen referral pathways and increase awareness of the service throughout Cork and surrounding communities.
Teaghlach has already seen strong engagement from families and referral agencies, with therapeutic programmes supporting parents to strengthen family relationships, improve emotional wellbeing and build more nurturing home environments for children.
Coolmine Therapeutic Community has a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality, person-centred addiction and recovery services throughout Ireland, and the organisation says the launch of Teaghlach reflects its continued commitment to innovation, compassion and family recovery.
