The South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) was called into action on Sunday night last, August 18 when two people fell from a quad bike on the Clogheen Loop.

SEMRA received a call just after 11.30pm, requesting that they respond to the incident.

‘There were no serious injuries but as it was on a forest trail, the National Ambulance Service (NAS) had concerns about being able to gain access,’ explained a SEMRA representive.

SEMRA members responded and were first on the scene. They assessed those involved and provided reassurance and stayed with them until the ambulances arrived.

‘The track was in very good condition, so the NAS ambulances were able to drive right into the casualties location’, according to a spokesperson.

Three units from Cahir fire service and a support vehicle, two AGS cars, two NAS ambulances and an NAS rapid response vehicle were at the scene, as well as three SEMRA off road vehicles.

Thankfully, both people involved in the incident were not badly injured but they were taken in the ambulances for further assessment as a precaution.

A representative from SEMRA told The Avondhu that ‘it was a great inter-agency response’.

COMERAGHS INCIDENT

It was SEMRAs second call of the day, as they had been called to Coumshingaun in the Comeraghs earlier on Sunday for an incident where an individual had a lower leg injury. That brings the total number of SEMRA call outs to 32 so far this year.
