Young Cork fan will remember his time following Cork hurlers

Darragh Fitzgibbon and the young Cork fan, Tomas Og, after being presented with his special hurley.

A unfortunate and dramatic event at the end of the recent Cork versus Tipperary Munster Senior hurling championship encounter, turned out to be a happy ending for one fortunate Cork supporter.

A young fan, who ran onto the pitch straight after the final whistle, inadvertently got caught up in the post-match celebrations between the winning Cork players. At that point, Cork captain, Darragh Fitzgibbon, accidentally caught the young supporter with the butt of his hurley on the nose, leaving the unfortunate young fan rolling in pain on the pitch in the FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles. Fortunately for the young fan, observant Tipp player Noel McGrath, and a nearby match official came to his assistance whilst celebrations continued amongst the unwitting Cork players and supporters.

Soon after the game ended, fans and the media picked up on what had taken place thanks to footage shared on social media. This footage came to the attention of Charleville’s Darragh Fitzgibbon and other members of the Cork squad, prompting Darragh to reach out to his sponsor, Cavanagh’s of Charleville, to see if the identity of the young fan could be revealed.
