Gardaí are set to move the Road Policing Unit to Mitchelstown as a large specialist vulnerable victims office arrives in the Garda divisional headquarters.
The move will see Traffic Corps gardai move from their original base to make way for the Protective Services Unit, who will take up their work in the Fermoy base.
A source said: “Space is at a premium in Fermoy Garda Station, that has ben mooted before on a number of occasions. The protective services unit, are a group of plain clothes gardai whose role is to deal with sex crime victims and ‘other sensitive investigations’.
