Residents in Kilworth have taken on Irish Water following a decision by the national utility company to hook households on the Macroney-Castlecooke water supply up to what they claim to be the lesser quality Downing Bridge supply.
Following a meeting between residents and Irish Water representatives last week, the proposal has been stalled pending a review by the company.
A decision is expected to be made by Irish Water within four weeks.
Irish Water say they have €560,000 to spend on the works which were going ahead but for the intervention by concerned residents, who sent a petition to the company indicating that they do not wish to move to the Downing Bridge supply, citing the corrosive water on this line.
Councillors Deirdre O’Brien and Frank O’Flynn have provided support to the residents as they battle the proposed change.
