Groups from several villages across the region received their awards earlier this week for their stellar performances in this year’s Anti-Litter Challenge run by Cork County Council. The winners were announced at the end of June this year.

For the second consecutive year, Kildorrery topped the ‘Large Villages’ category for North Cork, with Newtownshandrum in second and Castletownroche in third place. As the overall winners, Kildorrery advanced to the final against their southern and western regional counterparts Saleen and Durrus. The winners of the finals will be announced in September.

Speaking previously with The Avondhu, chair of the group in Kildorrery Ted Enright heartily thanked those who had helped to keep the village tidy, and continue to do so throughout the year.
