
As water leaked from underground pipes at the courthouse in Fermoy, water was being drawn from the other side of the building by the fire station, to be brought to Youghal to bolster supplies.
The scene, which played out outside council offices in the town set the tone for Wednesday’s meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District at which strong criticism was levelled at the ‘high ups’ and the long delays in repairs, and frustration was voiced as a Water Conservation Order struck nationwide following weeks of issues across The Avondhu catchment area.
Highlighting the situation outside the Fermoy council building as he spoke on a motion tabled at the meeting regarding Uisce Éireann, Cllr Peter O’Donoghue voiced frustration at the larger situation, claiming Uisce Éireann were ill-equipped to deal with the situation locally due to understaffing.
