The 5th annual Coolagown 5k took place in picturesque settings on Thursday, June 15 with a record turnout of 346 runners and 40 walkers – a jump of nearly 100 on last year’s numbers – which shows that running in Cork is going from strength to strength.

There was a widespread representation from the various athletic associations with the first two runners home representing East Cork AC. James McCarthy arrived back in first place in a time of 15.17 and was followed by Sean McGrath in a time of 15.27.

Nigel Sheehan, Youghal AC, was third at 16.46, while the first female home was Niamh Roe Leeavale AC, (18.34) with Sharon Woods, Mallow AC in second place at 19.49 and Joan Ennis, Grange-Fermoy AC at 20.02.
