Pump My Parish – Tracking Ireland’s 1.3 million 18-44s waiting to own

Almost 10,000 people are without their own home within the Fermoy Municipal District, with an estimated wait of 43.2 years for those without homes.

The district, which encompasses Fermoy, Mitchelstown and surrounding villages, according to ‘Pump My Parish’ at onemillionhomes.ie, is currently seeing an average of 228 houses built a year, coming in at 58.6 homes per 10k of population. Despite this, the Fermoy district is ‘surging’, with building up 44% compared to five years ago, and ranks 66 out of 166 districts.

The website was set up by Bartlemy local, Edward Dixon, and Dungarvan local Rob Cass, with Ed explaining to The Avondhu that while he has a home, his concern regarding the current housing situation is for his children.

“I’ve got four kids and the oldest is 17 now and I just kept watching this housing crisis and thinking ‘gosh it keeps getting worse’ and I really hope my kids have the option of settling close by.

“We’re (Edward and Rob) both lucky enough that we’re not having to buy anything, we’re sorted, we’re both just worried about what our kids are going to do,” he explained.
