A major advancement in healthcare provision for patients across the Mid-West region came with the recent opening of the new state-of-the-art Bon Secours Diagnostic Imaging Centre in Limerick by Alliance Medical and Bon Secours Health System.
The new 944 square metre facility was officially opened on Thursday, June 25th, by John Kiely, manager of the Limerick Senior hurling team, and marks the first time that PET-CT scanning technology will be available in the Mid-West, significantly enhancing cancer diagnosis, staging, and treatment planning for patients across the region.
The centre, located within the Bon Secours Hospital campus in Limerick, is a joint initiative between Bon Secours Health System and Alliance Medical and features nine dedicated scan rooms equipped with some of the most advanced diagnostic imaging technology available. Services include PET-CT, MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-Ray, DEXA scanning, and Breast imaging.
‘EXCEPTIONAL’ FACILITY
Staffed by more than 60 healthcare professionals, including 13 consultant radiologists, the centre operates seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, providing patients with enhanced access, faster turnaround times and care closer to home.
The introduction of PET-CT services in Limerick will strengthen regional cancer services by enabling patients to access highly specialised imaging locally, reducing travel burdens and supporting more integrated cancer care pathways across the Mid-West.
Officially opening the centre, Galbally’s John Kiely said, “As someone deeply connected to the people of Limerick and the wider Mid-West, I am honoured to officially open this exceptional new facility. Access to high-quality healthcare is vital for every community, and this centre will make a real difference to patients and families throughout the region. It is fantastic to see such a significant investment in healthcare here in Limerick.”
