Rev Dr Sam Mawhinney of Adelaide Road Presbyterian Church in Dublin has been selected by the Presbyterian Church in Ireland to be its next Moderator.
The former Fermoy Minister stated this week that he was ‘surprised and humbled’ on his selection, and becomes the first Moderator from a congregation in the Republic of Ireland in nearly a quarter of a century.
Dr Mawhinney was elected as Moderator-Designate of the all-island denomination on Tuesday in the Church’s annual election for its principal public representative.
“I am genuinely surprised and humbled by my election this evening. It is a position I have not sought, but happily accept as God’s will for my life,” the Moderator-Designate said …
