A shortage of social housing for single people was highlighted at the Northern Committee council meeting earlier this week, as Cork County Council announced that there are roughly 506 people on the social housing list for Fermoy, and 262 looking to live in Mitchelstown.
The figures show that across the district, 143 people are looking for a one-bedroom home, 198 for a two-bedroom unit and 137 for a three-bedroomed unit.
The figures are not exactly accurate, as when housing applicants fill in the form they can select up to three areas that they’d like to live in, in no order of preference. Therefore, the figures are likely to be a little higher for each area than they are in reality.
