In a heartwarming ceremony held at Cork City Hall, the extraordinary contributions of Marymount Hospice volunteers were celebrated by the Mayor, Cllr Dan Boyle, being feted as ‘the heart and soul of our community’.
The event acknowledged the invaluable dedication and selfless service of the volunteers who support Marymount across a variety of departments, from providing companionship to patients to assisting in the gardens, working at reception, and even offering hairdressing services.
A cornerstone of compassionate care in Cork, Marymount Hospice relies on its network of volunteers to create a welcoming and supportive environment for patients and their families. Whether it’s offering a listening ear, creating a beautiful and serene garden space, or helping with administrative tasks, these volunteers contribute meaningfully to every aspect of hospice life.
‘THE VERY BEST OF HUMANITY’
Mayor Dan Boyle warmly addressed the gathering, praising the volunteers for their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those in care at Marymount Hospice.
“You are the heart and soul of our community,” the Mayor said. “Your kindness and tireless efforts embody the very best of humanity. It is a privilege to honour to welcome you here today.”
The event was a fitting celebration of a group of people who ask for nothing in return yet give so much to the community.
Speaking at the event, Marymount Fundraising and Marketing Manager expressed gratitude for the volunteers’ efforts.
“Our volunteers make Marymount what it is – a place of care, and comfort. Their dedication allows us to deliver our mission, and today’s recognition is a testament to the incredible impact they make every single day.”
