Cork’s Craft Month, now in its seventh year, promises to uphold the diversity, innovation and creativity for which the event series has become known and this year, two crafts people from The Avondhu readership area (one a ceramics artist, the other a textile artist), will be part of that celebration from August 2 to September 4.

Siobhain Steele has her ceramics studio at her home in, Kildinan, (near Rathcormac) to which visitors will be welcome all month, but by appointment please.

Her ceramic designs include lamps, vases, framed designs and her unique ceramic bottles, which are carefully hand decorated to evoke a sense of simplicity and serenity. Siobhain is inspired by the lush natural landscape surrounding her studio near Rathcormac.

Siobhan’s work is on show (and sale) in Cork Craft & Design (Douglas Village Shopping Centre) and for the month of August at the Home event in Kinsale.

An extremely busy lady, she is also involved with the Fermoy NRG Group that meets at Fermoy Youth Centre every Thursday morning.

TEXTILE AND SURFACE DESIGN

Sue Gifford of Sue Gifford Design is a textile and surface decorator who works from her studio in Castletownroche. Her trademark, intricate, hand-painted designs are produced as digital prints on fabrics.  Sue also produces finely detailed hand painted furniture and interior accessories, and is happy to paint your beloved pets onto treasure boxes or as portraits.

Sue’s work is presently being featured in Irish Country magazine and also in the Summer Issue of Munster Interiors, which illustrates both her bespoke painting and her latest floral mural in The Rose Hotel, Tralee.

Sue, who will be showing some of her work at a garden exhibition in Skibbereen from August 6, is throwing open her studio doors for an open day on Saturday, August 20 so why not drop by to see Sue’s work in progress.
