Reigning Formula Drift champion James Deane became the first driver to simultaneously hold a professional championship title in both America and Europe after winning the fifth round of the Drift Masters European Championship in Germany, securing the 2018 European Championship title.
The fifth round of the 2018 Drift Masters European Championship took place in the Hockenheimring in Germany.
In the first run James faced Grzegorz Hypki, the man sitting in second place in the championship and the only other driver in contention for the 2018 title. In a pulsating battle James executed a flawless navigation of the course in the first run and in run two with it all to lose, James flew off the line, fighting to match the speed of Hypki’s BMW.
While James would drop back slightly around the turn one, he would reel in Hypki around the remainder of the circuit, crossing the line door-to-door and securing not only a place in the Top 16, but putting the 2018 Drift Masters European Championship out of reach for the remainder of the pack.
