Around ten staff at Iceland in Fermoy have allegedly been put on 4-week layoffs as the store, located at Blackwater Shopping Centre on the northside of town has shut its doors indefinitely.
This comes following large-scale recalls of frozen foods of animal origin at the store and the subsequent High Court appointment of an interim examiner to the company.
Last week, the local store had a ‘soft close’ on Tuesday, July 11, following a conference call held early in the morning among staff and company officials.
It is understood that at this time, staff at the store were told to serve any customers remaining in the store and to close up the store.
