Fermoy has reappeared in the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) Anti-Litter League after the town have been removed from the surveys in previous years to allow for other Cork towns to join the league.
In its reappearance in results issued this week, Fermoy has ranked 32nd out of the 40 towns surveyed, coming in under the ‘moderately littered’ category.
The result has been described as ‘very disappointing’ for the town, as chairperson of Fermoy Tidy Towns and local TD, Noel McCarthy, said that the committee and volunteers in the group are ‘devastated’ with the news.
“Fermoy doesn’t deserve the mark that it got. We’re actually devastated. We had a meeting this week and we’re fairly down, because the volunteers are putting in some work. We’re appealling to people to take responsibility. We want people to work with us,” Deputy McCarthy said.
