– Legislation needed to protect vulnerable farmers –
New legislation to protect vulnerable farmers is being called for as situations of farm abuse continue across the region.
This week, one man explained his situation of farm abuse to The Avondhu.
The man, who asked not the be named, said that he had worked on the family farm for his parents for the best part of 20 years but however, was ‘forced’ out of the farm.
Now nearing his 50s, the man hopes to highlight the situation for young farmers who may be staying at home and working the family farm.
“I know between six and eight farmers in The Avondhu readership area at home working their parents' farm with no wage” the man said.
