Horgan's of Mitchelstown were this week celebrating the news that their own label beef and ham range won them gold stars at the Great Taste 2013 awards

The Great Taste Awards Gold 2013 Two Star went to Horgan’s Irish angus corned beef and Horgan's Irish angus pastrami, with one star going to Horgan’s Irish angus roast beef, honey baked ham on the bone, lightly smoked ham on the bone and unsmoked ham on the bone.

The awards are based on taste, as the products are presented to the judges in blind tastings with no wrappings, jars or marks and overall, 12 judges would have tasted and commented on each product to award the stars.

Managing director of Horgan's Delicatessen Supplies, Michael Horgan said that they have always strived for quality and value, while great taste has been central to their range since they were first established in 1921 by Michael's grandfather.

"The Great Taste Awards symbol shows our customers that our products have been through a rigorous judging process and have come out on top and are a 'must stock' product for any deli counter," he said.
