Pieta benefits from Rathcormac native’s London marathon run

Colm McCarthy, a native of Rathcormac, who took on the London City Marathon in aid of Pieta.

Rathcormac native, Colm McCarthy, was among those to completethe recent 2024 London City Marathon, running in aid of Pieta, a charity for the prevention of suicide and self-harm. Now living in Lymington, Hampshire, where he is a district councillor and deputy mayor, it was his first time running in the world renowned event.

Speaking with The Avondhu, Mr McCarthy explained that he had attempted to participate in the past, and this time was selected on the second ballot to run for his chosen charity.

“There were over 58,000 people put their names in on it on a ballot scheme. I was lucky to get in on it this year,” he said. “It took a lot of preparation. It’s taken 12 months but over the last six months, it really took a lot of my time. With work and everything else, there was a lot of things happening in between. It does take a lot out of your daily life to prepare for something like this”.
