Horan’s network of fifteen health stores throughout Ireland offers a wide range of health food products, supplements, cosmetics, toiletries, home gifts and more. But in Mitchelstown under manager Catherine Devine, Horan’s Healthstore is promoting a fresh initiative to enhance the health and relieve stress of its loyal customers and to encourage new faces to pop in and explore what is on offer.
Recently, Catherine from Kilworth/Gloccamaura, has been exploring new ways to encourage people to lead healthy lives. Building on the excellent advice and customer service offered by Horan’s staff Rasa, Joshua, Triona, Emily and Sarah, Catherine has invited local health therapists and practitioners to work from the shops new treatment room.
Cora Hayes Culleton, Master Integrated Energy (IET) Instructor from Ballyporeen offers this treatment to clear energy blocks that accumulate as a bi-product of trauma. She also does Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Hopi Ear Candling, One to One Cacao ceremonies and meditation along with an energy healing technique which uses gentle hand movements to guide the flow of healthy energy through the body to reduce stress and promote healing.
Emily Bolton from Kilworth, former manager of Horan’s Mitchelstown, is a Clinical Herbalist and a member of the Irish Register of Herbalists (IRH). Emily will be available to see patients for an in-depth consultation, looking at the person as a whole resulting in a combination of nutrition and lifestyle advice along with individually formulated herbal tinctures, teas and powders. Herbal medicine has been traditionally used for hundreds of years to treat common infections, boost the immune system, balance hormones, lower cholesterol and help relieve skin conditions to list but a few applications.
Heather Smith from Glenahulla offers Indian Head Massage; a stimulating but soothing massage focusing on the head, neck, scalp and face. She also practises reflexology, another natural, safe therapy to help relax, balance and harmonise the body. Heather says that reflexology has been successful in relieving many acute and chronic conditions such as insomnia, menstrual problems, migraines, sinusitis, vertigo, asthma, sciatica and many others.
“These therapies,” she says, “complement standard medical care”. She offers reflexology for general well-being, for cancer care, for maternity and infertility. She’ll even show young mums how to give their babies reflexology. Not only that, she is pleased to say that as a member of the National Register of Reflexologists Ireland, her work is accredited by all the major private health insurance companies.
“Depending on cover,” she says, “clients from ROI are eligible for up to 50% of costs”. “All good,” smiles Manager Catherine as she points to a lovely room at the rear of the store: a room lit with the warm glow of salt lamps and permeated with the familiar smell of Horan’s Healthstore, the indefinable combination of herbs, essential oils and incense. “And as a bonus coming up to Christmas, we’re offering gift vouchers for some free sessions to a few lucky customers!”
