The newly formed Glenroe Tidy Towns group have hit the ground running in their efforts to make Glenroe a cleaner and more beautiful place and they have organised clean up evenings to take place every week.

Volunteers start out at 7pm on Tuesday evenings bringing gardening equipment or being provided with bags and pickers to help clear the countryside of litter.

Individuals and groups have taken responsibility for different areas, such as the graveyards at Glenroe and Darragh, cleaning signposts, cutting back growth to improve visibility and safety, Darragh creamery and bridge and the group are also hoping to identify a ‘golden mile’.

Some of the work that has been completed so far includes edging along the lawn and paths in the church grounds and the margins of the road have also been mowed, both providing a delightful contrast to the lush wildflower areas.

Splashes of blue, violet, yellow, white and orange flowers can be seen and work has also started on cleaning the pump area, where a seat and planters will be provided.

Anyone who would like to join the group is welcome to join the volunteers at 7pm on Tuesdays at Glenroe Hall and all are welcome to enjoy a chat and cup of tea afterwards.
