To bring scouts together across the generations, the Glanworth 105th Scout Group organised a Gathering themed event called 'Now and Then' on December 16.

The event, which was very well supported was a celebration of all things scouting in Glanworth, with a display of uniforms, books, photos, medals, awards and much more to bring people back to the history of scouting in the area.

Compere for the evening and chief organiser of the event Lin Rodgers, welcomed everyone before introducing Mr David Barry, the well-known scouting historian to the event.

David spoke about how scouting was originally formed by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907. David was responsible for bringing many of the artefacts with him from the scouting museum.

Also present at the event was the Chief Scout of Ireland, Michael John Shinnick. Michael John, as well as being the Chief Scout, is also a founding and current member of the Glanworth Scout Group which is celebrating 22 years in existence.

He spoke about how the group was formed and how great it was to see a number of the original leaders from 22 years ago present in Glanworth hall.

On the night, awards were presented to a number of individuals: Cub Kate O’Brien was presented with the Chief Scout Award, Liam Lawton was presented with the 20 Years Service Award and the Silver Meritorious Award for services to scouting, and Laura O’Connor was presented with the Chief Scout’s Commendation Award.

The following Glanworth leaders were presented with their beads for completing all their training: Ber Barry, Kevin Fitzgerald, Tammy Rodgers, Lin Rodgers and Zoe Rodgers. The Glanworth Scout Group would like to thank all who attended on the night.
