In its 35th year, the Galbally Garden Fete promises to be bigger and better than ever with a line up of weekend events to bring people home from abroad to tie in with The Gathering. The fete takes place from Friday, August 23 to Sunday, August 25.
Speaking at the launch this week in O'Connell's Galtee House in Galbally, the chairman of Galbally Community Council said that this year's festival has been extended to a full weekend of events with an array of activities to appeal to everyone's interests.
The fete will kick off with the golf classic and bingo game on Friday, August 23 and there will also be other sports-focused events on that day, such as the under-age football tournament and a junior football tournament for the Willie Cussen Cup between Galbally and Emly.
The bingo will take place at 8.30pm that night in the community centre, with entertainment in O'Connell's to see people through into the wee hours of the night.
Saturday brings with it more exciting events with Irish set dancing workshops and a ceili where people can show off what they learnt that morning (a great opportunity to show visitors a few authentic Irish dancing steps), a historical walk and tour, equestrian events, a scavenger hunt, the 5 mile road race and an Irish traditional concert.
The weekend will culminate on Sunday 25th with the garden fete. The highlights include live music from John McNicholl, the fancy dress parade through the town, a vintage tractor and car display, a fire brigade demonstration and throughout the weekend, there will be a funfair and pub entertainment each night.
