New motions passed at the SouthDoc Board of Directors AGM earlier in the year have been brought up in the Dáil this week.
The new motions which state that pregnant doctors and doctors on maternity leave should be excluded from SouthDoc rotas; that doctors over 60 years of age should be excluded from rotas and SouthDoc should pay for the locum, have been hotly contested as their introduction could see the closure of Fermoy SouthDoc.
Dr Patrick Burke of Medina Medical in Fermoy told The Avondhu this week that the ‘silence is deafening’ in relation to the issue, noting that former colleagues have not spoken out about the issue.
