The community of Fermoy and beyond turned out in droves over the weekend to pay their respects to local businessman and philanthropist, Dr Tom Cavanagh, who sadly passed away last week at the age of 92.

Former chairman and managing director of Cavanagh’s of Fermoy, Dr Cavanagh took over the business from his father, Tom Cavanagh Snr in the mid 1960s.

A spokesperson for Cavanagh’s of Fermoy explained that Dr Cavanagh had been chairman and managing director at the business for years and which expanded to several motor businesses during his time.

“Cavanagh’s of Fermoy was the base and he also established Cavanagh’s of Charleville and Cavanagh’s of Blackrock (CAB). He built the business into several motor businesses and it’s one of the most premier motor dealerships in the country.”
