Fermoy Rowing Club member Alison Bergin has been selected for the Irish Junior (U19) squad and is preparing to represent her country in the upcoming European Junior Rowing Championships in Serbia next month.
The Irish selection trials began in September of last year and Kildinan local, Alison (18) won the very first one back in October.
Alison’s father, Shane Bergin, told The Avondhu that she only began rowing when she was about thirteen or fourteen.
“I went for a swim one day in Fermoy and the club was open. Stephen Donnellan was at the club and asked if she’d be interested in joining, so she joined up and that’s when she got into it,” Mr Bergin said.
