
Young poets from Fermoy town’s primary schools were acknowledged for their poetic achievements at an awards ceremony on Monday night, December 8th.
Three pupils from each of the four schools – Adair NS, Bishop Murphy Memorial School, St Joseph’s NS and Presentation Primary School – were awarded on the night, with their poems being selected from hundreds of entries to the Fermoy Poetry Group Primary Schools Competition.
Olive Corcoran of Fermoy Poetry Group, spoke on the night to acknowledge the exceptionally high standard of poetry amongst the young children, stating she wished the group could offer prizes to all who entered. Speaking with The Avondhu previously, Ms Corcoran outlined hopes to encourage children in poetry writing and to make Fermoy a ‘Poetry Town’.
