‘Cal’ O’Keeffe posthumously awarded for his bravery

The family of the late Callaghan O’Keeffe attended last Friday’s National Bravery Award ceremony in Dublin to accept a gold medal and a memorial certificate of bravery, which were presented posthumously to the Glanworth man, who saved the life of a woman in October last year, having pushed her from the path of an oncoming car.

Mr O’Keeffe, known locally as Cal, sadly passed away from fatal injuries sustained in the incident in Fermoy, but was hailed a hero for his decisive action on the day. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Cal’s son Martin, who accepted the award on his father’s behalf, said that the award was ‘very important’ to the family.
