“We are absolutely delighted to be nominated in the ‘Best Chorus’ category by the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) for our recent show ‘Hot Mikado’,” Alison Bereford said this week on behalf of Fermoy Musical Society. The nominations were annoiunced on Sunday last, May 21.

The AIMS awards are the equivalent of the Oscars for Musical Societies and getting a nomination is a huge deal. Alison said they are particularly thrilled to be in the running for ‘Best Chorus’ because the chorus ‘is the foundation of a show and is a barometer of the overall talent within a society’.

The AIMS adjudicator stated: “This show requires the chorus to hit the stage running and never stop, which is exactly what Fermoy Musical Society gave us. The male chorus was positive in all their actions, the female chorus were marvellous. The energy that each gave was super.”

Alison said the society could not have achieved a show of the standard of ‘Hot Mikado’ without the support of their wonderful sponsors.

“We are so grateful to Mellerick’s Pharmacy and the Medical Hall who were our gold sponsors this year. Synergy Credit Union and McCarthy Insurance Group were our silver sponsors and we also received generous contributions from Laya Healthcare and Dairygold Co-Op. ‘The Choral’ as FMS was known, was always an ornament to the town and we want to make sure we continue this tradition.

“This nomination is hopefully the start of many more in the coming years. With the talent of our amazing local dancers and singers, the future looks bright for FMS,” Alison concluded.
