Audiobook launch during Pain Awareness Month

Pain Awareness Month 2026, which runs throughout September (1st–30th), marks its 25th anniversary as an international campaign to reduce the stigma of chronic pain and improve access to care.

Author Michele Roy is inviting readers, listeners and supporters to join her for a special online event late this month celebrating the launch of the audiobook edition of her powerful and deeply personal book, But You Look Just Fine.

The Limerick author has lived for over seven years with trigeminal neuralgia, fibromyalgia, and chronic Lyme disease – conditions that are largely invisible, but can have significant daily impact.

Trigeminal neuralgia, often referred to as “the suicide disease” and widely described in medical literature as one of the most severe pain conditions, can cause sudden, electric shock-like facial pain triggered by everyday actions such as speaking or exposure to wind. Fibromyalgia and Lyme disease are also associated with chronic pain, fatigue, and other long-term symptoms. All three are considered invisible illnesses.

The online evening will offer audiences an opportunity to hear directly from Michele about the story behind her book, the personal journey that inspired it and the process of bringing it to life in audiobook form.

Taking place on Thursday, September 24, the free event will be hosted by Andrea Hayes, whom many will recognise from her work as a TV presenter, broadcaster and author. Andrea is known for her own book ‘Pain Free Life – My Journey to Wellness’, as well as many appearances on TV3, including in TV3’s hugely successful series Animal A&E
