Fermoy local, Katie Drago has recently been acknowledged for her locally inspired artworks which were acknowledged with two awards at the opening night of the Crawford College of Art and Design degree show.

Katie’s work, created in response to the neglected history of a mother and baby home in Fermoy which operated out of a section of the old workhouse on the grounds of Fermoy Community Hospital, won the MTU President’s Prize, selected by the MTU President, Maggie Cusack.

On opening night, she also won Best Thesis, for her thesis entitled ‘Filling in the gaps of the neglected legacy of Ireland’s morther and baby homes’, in which she used her own primary research on Fermoy as a case study.
