A donkey called Seán died of his injuries after he was discovered with a deep stab wound in Castletownroche at the weekend. The donkey has been in the care of local councillor Frank Roche since last March.

The stabbing incident occurred on Saturday at some time between half past noon and 2pm, Cllr Frank Roche believes. Seán unfortunately died of his injuries on Sunday evening.

A vet’s autopsy report, seen by The Avondhu, states that Seán had suffered two broken ribs, a puncture wound 2cm in diameter to his colon and trauma to the liver as a result of ‘penetrative trauma’ to the right hand side of his abdomen: a deep stab wound. He died of septic peritonitis and internal bleeding.
